Given the various dynamics involved, the required spending to achieve net-zero emissions and the reduction in fossil-fuel power generation are likely to be inflationary, before the various ramifications – including the shift to renewable energy – are disinflationary over the long term. But how fast the transition occurs, alongside the unknowns of future government policy and even geopolitical dynamics, mean significant uncertainty remains.
